This is the story of a young man’s journey through the female impersonation performance scene in Syracuse, NY. Unlike the glamorized Hollywood versions of drag performance portrayed in films like “Birdcage,” the Syracuse scene is decidedly “low rent.” Performers have few resources and work for little or no pay. They have to rely on each other and on their own ingenuity to create the illusion of glamour. In doing so, the performers create a community that provides them with a refuge and helps the subject of the documentary, Tim, come to terms with his identity as a gay man. As he narrates his story, we go inside the clubs and watch some astounding performances.
